How do I delete my data?
Tap the chef in the top-right corner to open Settings, then Delete this chef under Chef. It removes that chef, their shelf and their saved recipes from the device for good.
Deleting the app removes everything, for every chef — PantryPal keeps nothing outside its own folder on the phone.
Do I need an account?
No. PantryPal asks for a name to put on your shelf and nothing else — no email address, no password, no account. Several people can share one phone and keep separate kitchens; Settings › Switch chef moves between them.
Because there are no passwords, anyone holding your unlocked phone can open any chef. The device's own lock is what protects them.
The scanner didn't find my groceries
Point the camera at a receipt or straight into an open fridge, and keep the whole thing in frame. Glare and heavy creases are what usually defeat it. Anything it misses you can type in by hand — tap the wardrobe on the home screen, then Type it in.
It deliberately ignores non-food: cleaning supplies, toiletries, pet food and receipt noise like coupons and totals never reach your shelf.
It says "the kitchen's slammed"
That's the AI service shedding load. Nothing is broken and nothing is lost — wait a minute and try again. The chef's own recipe book is bundled inside the app, so the home screen keeps suggesting dinners either way.
Are the recipes safe to follow?
Some are written by us; some are generated by AI from the ingredients you picked, and those are estimates — including the calorie and protein numbers. Cook meat, poultry, seafood and eggs to safe temperatures, and double-check anything involving allergies or dietary restrictions. PantryPal is not medical or nutrition advice.
The app is taking up space
Settings shows what the illustration cache is holding, with a Clear button next to it. Clearing it never touches the pictures that ship with the app, so your shelf stays fully illustrated afterwards.
What data leaves my phone?
Scan photos so they can be read, the ingredient names you pick so recipes can be written, and the name of anything the chef draws so the drawing can be made — plus a per-install device number (not your name, not an advertising id) so the service can slow down abuse.
